Kat knelt down near the grufflegoat and reached out a hand. It made a little bleating sound and trotted toward her. “Okay, I’ll admit it,” said Kat. “You are pretty adorable. Have you been hiding out here?”

The drills had briefly fallen quiet, but now they started up with a roar, and the baby grufflegoat leaped onto Kat’s lap, quivering. Its coat changed to a worried light blue. “You poor little thing. Where are the other baby grufflegoats?” Kat asked.
